The Royal Manicure

June 24, 2016

Hello Sweeties! Manicures are something I really love to do whenever I'm having a pamper session. I really enjoy giving my nails that extra bit of attention and the results are lovely. I like to really go to town with my manicures, giving them the royal treatment they deserve.

REMOVE ANY POLISH

One super important step before even beginning your manicure is to remove any nail polish from your nails. I know it's all to easy to leave your nails polish until it flakes away and leaves little bits of old polish on your nails, but properly removing your nail polish is really important. Don't leave it on then build another layer of polish on top. That's just gross. Imagine layers of old nail polish piled up on your nails. That doesn't sound pleasant does it? There are so many different polish removers for many different prices. I like to use liquid polish remover and if I squirt some onto a cotton pad and wipe my whole nail area it removes my polish in seconds.

TRIM YOUR NAILS

Although that long-nail look is lovely, that does not mean you shouldn't trim your nails. I used to use nail scissors but over the years I found that nail clippers were so much easier to use. They might seem a bit scary at first but once you get the hang of them they give you a much cleaner finish then scissors do. Once you've trimmed your nails make sure to go over the with a nail file if you have one. But on thing I learned the hard way is to MAKE SURE YOU FILE YOUR NAILS IN THE SAME DIRECTION. I used to go back and fourth on each nail like they do in the movies. The result? Majorly split nails!

CUTICLE OIL

This is something I didn't get into until late last year, but I'm so glad I did. One of my biggest pet peeves is those yuck cuticles that are all flaky and uneven and dry. If you have a naturally dry nail area I highly suggest you invest in one these, I personally love the Almond Cuticle Oil from The Body Shop. A little pricey but it lasts ages and has a nice applicator than evenly disperses the product onto your nails. Plus it smells like almonds so bonus!

THE POLISH

For my standard manicure I will use three polishes: Base coat, polish colour and top coat. Some people can't be bothered with base and top coat but  they can really help to increase the longevity of your manicure. My favourite base coat is Sinful Colours' one, it's pretty affordable and it works well too! I have a few of my favourite polish colours shown here too. Essie is probably my top nail brand because even though I can't deny the finish of O.P.I Essie's quick drying formula works well with my impatience! They honestly dry in seconds. The colour I have here is one of my all time faves, it's a beautiful rose gold called Penny Talk. However when I'm feeling slightly more patient I do love O.P.I, and this bubblegum pink shade in Pinking-Of-You is stunning. The Revlon Sweet Nothings polish in Rendez Blue (no longer available) is my go to when I want a sheer polish. It's a silvery colour that adds a lovely sheen to your nails. The Orly Snap Dry top coat is amazing, it drys super fast and it can help your polish dry faster too. It really seals in your polish and makes it last a lot longer.

HAND CREAM

Once my nails are completely dry I like to put on a nice nourishing hand cream. The Body Shop's Almond Hand and Nail Butter is absolutely gorgeous. It's a thick buttery consistency (of course) and it's so hydrating, it leaves your hands feeling baby soft if you leave it on overnight. I wouldn't suggest it for a day time treatment because it's so intense, but it's perfect for a pamper sesh! Smells like almonds and matches my cuticle oil :)

What's your favourite nail polish colour?

  3. I love giving attention to my nails so I clicked on this post really fast! I think base coat is really important so you don't damage your nails, I have an oxygen base and it works great. My favourite nail polish is Maybelline's Canal Street Coral (which THEY DON'T DO ANYMORE and that makes me really mad >.< I'm trying to find a substitute!) Great post!
