USA Diary: Vegas Baby!

July 26, 2016

July 6th, 2016

Went down to L.A airport this morning to catch a plane over to Las Vegas. I was so excited, I feel like Vegas is the sort of place you need to see at least once in your life! Smooth flight over, enjoyed the views and loved seeing Vegas from above. We get off the plane and head out the airport . .  and almost die. Seriously though, we stepped out in FORTY DEGREES CELSIUS.

I've been in heat before, New Zealand gets pretty hot and I've been to the Gold Coast (Australia, Surfer's Paradise) in the Summer time twice. The Gold Coast was my benchmark for hot. Vegas has officially exceeded that! It was so hot you could barely move, even the wind was hot. It felt like I was walking into a hair dryer on full. Not my cup of tea. I like the sun, I like the heat. Los Angeles' 25-30 degree heat was lovely. But 40? Not my thing!

We hopped in a shuttle and got driven to our hotel. Driving to our hotels was one of my favourite parts of the whole trip. The airports were generally 30-45 mins away from our hotels so we got to really see the city. We finally get to our hotel and I feel like it was the definition of Las Vegas! It was very beautiful, don't get me wrong, but it was so outrageously over the top! There was a carousel made of flowers, and a walk way that looked like an indoor secret garden. There was a giant metallic pop eye figure, and a casino larger than life. Not that I played any of those games haha! Even our pillows were massive!

Apple and Cinnamon crepe from Las Vegas Fashion Show Mall :)

After a little relax time at the hotel me my sister and my mum went for a little shopping at the fashion show mall. I went into Abercrombie and Fitch which was absolutely amazing! They had such a beautiful clothes and tons of big sales which are always good (I'll be sure to haul my items later this week!). I couldn't resist picking up a few things right then and there ;)

Trump tower Vegas at night!

Stratosphere building - believe it or not you can do a free fall jump off this thing!
Soon enough it was getting darker outside and all the Vegas lights were coming on. We went to Denny's for dinner which was really nice and very cool and american, if you know what I mean! Next we walked down the Vegas strip for about an hour. Saw the famous Circus Circus hotel which had real circus acts inside! It also had a ton of circus style arcade games and a Zoltar fortune teller which I couldn't resist. Picked up a few American sweets to try too - why are Butterfingers not sold in New Zealand! The rest of the Vegas strip was cool but not quite what I expected. We realised why when we got back to our hotel. Turns out we we walked the opposite direction of the Vegas strip. Yes, really. Oh well, we still had a lot of fun!

Have you ever been to Las Vegas?

  2. Las Vegas looks amazing! Or should I say awesome? Maybe I won't feel that hot, as summer in the middle east goes way beyond 40 degrees. But I'd prefer travelling when its pleasant, not too hot or too cold. I really wish I could visit US sometime :):)
